Rotarians Purchase New Van for Lighthouse

The Lighthouse for the Blind of the Palm Beaches received a new van thanks to a matching grant project that began with Club Calafia de Mexicali and Club Rotario de Monterry in Mexico. Past District Tom Stanley, John O’Neil, Jean Starkey, Steven Bates, Gwendolyn Myers, May Allen, Joe Ieradi,Evelyn Kelly, Brook Evans, Skylar Goodwin, Suzanne Turner, Patricia Reybold and Marvin TanckGovernor of Rotary, Jean Starkey, was aware of matching grant money that had been donated by the Mexican Rotaries. Ms. Starkey contacted them to see if they would be interested in making a donation to the Lighthouse. They immediately accepted to help fund the project. Rotary International, The Palm Beach Flagler Rotary, and The Delray Beach Rotary all submitted matching grant money to purchase an eight passenger van.

Joe Ieradi, Past President of the Palm Beach Flagler Rotary Club found a van at Mullinex Ford, located in North Palm Beach, FL. After selecting the van the Rotarians were informed that the grant amount was slightly less than originally thought. Mullinex Ford decided that they would supply the van for the total amount of the grant which was $14,000.00 and volunteered to donate the remaining balance due of $4,750.00. “It was very overwhelming for me to see everyone in the community come together to help the Lighthouse. We were in desperate need of transportation to serve our clients and this van will help us continue to expand our services. I want to thank all the people who helped make this happen for the people we serve,” says Mary Allen, Director of Vision Services for the Lighthouse.
